![]() ![]() Wherever English speakers have gone on the globe – and into space – they have taken with them the King James Version of the Bible. Today, 400 years later, English is a global language with two billion English speaking people and seventy nations with English as the majority language. When the King James Version was first published in 1611, there were four million English speaking people, all living on the island nation of Great Britain, at the edge of Europe. No one in 1611 could have imagined the global importance the English language would have 400 years later – neither King James who authorized the new translation of the Bible into English nor the fifty-four translators themselves.
